With a week of training to become a skydiver planned, Ming left Hong Kong and arrived in Thailand, only to find out that thaiskyadventures is closed for a further couple of weeks.
Anyway Ming being the excitement junkie that he is laid out a tight schedule for his week in Pattaya booking his self into anything and everything exiting.
One of the things he wanted to try out was a Dirt Bike Adventure Tour and I was more than happy to oblige.
A short tour was on the cards and with a pick up at his hotel after breakfast we cruised over to Bike Lane to get kitted up ready for the ride.
The short tour consists of mixed terrain and landscape, we start off on an open sand road after leaving bike lane, and before long riding on some washed out tracks with storm gully’s then through some soft sand crossing a small stream, all looked to be going well and as I looked around Ming was laying on the ground in a heap, he must have lost a bit of the control or that his concentration just lapsed for a second, but he was fine and straight back up and on the bike, we pulled over and just ran through the basics of off road riding once more, setting off again yielded another slip and down Ming went for the second time.
I took his bike and gave it a looking over to find the first fall bent in the hand guard and trapped on the front brake, with a bit of adjustment we were up and running again.
I swapped over and let Ming ride the smaller 140 cc Kawasaki, with this we got moving and were soon on the better softer trails, we headed for a nice soft sand section of trail as I always do when I get a fresh customer, it’s nice to let them feel that it’s not just sitting on the bike and twisting the throttle,
The soft sand is far trickier to ride through and you need a good technique and balance, this takes dirt bike riding experience and without it a new rider will tense up and their body will go against everything that they should be doing, which leads to a lot of out of control riding and the odd spill laying the bike down.
Ming found this out! recognizing how tough it was, luckily he was on the 140 which is much lower and lighter.
We headed on along more tracks between the plantations and skirted around the bottom of the hill to look back at views of pattaya, Ming was really getting the hang of things and even did a bit of standing up, we stopped a few times replenished a bit of lost fluid, took a picture then moved on, we arrived back to Bike Lane in one piece although the bikes were a little bit twisted but nothing that couldn’t be fixed.
Ming was buzzing and said he enjoyed it so much that he immediately moved his Saturday morning bungy jump to make way for another trip out with me on the bikes.
The second ride on the Saturday was great, we got up to the top of the hill looking across the plane towards the vineyard and buddha mountain, Ming really enjoyed every minute with some easy sections to ride and a few trickier parts that were a bit more challenging.
I have a feeling between Ming and Dirt Adventure Pattaya something has been started and it won’t be the last I see of Mr Ming from Hong Kong.
He’s sure to have caught the dirt bike bug.
