Asharry from Singapore gets his trail on.
Working for an Oil and Gas project and living temporarily in thailand Asharry from singapore looks for exiting weekend activities, he found the tracks n trails website and gave me a text late saturday evening with the hopes of some sunday dirt action, first thing the next morning I called him up and planned the meet at his hotel.
We chatted in the car on the way to Bike lane, Ash had had bikes and even raced before in club level competition races just north of singapore in malaysia, having an experienced rider is great on the tour as riding at a slightly faster pace keeps it exiting.
We kitted up and set off, immediately on the trail I turned to Ash and pointed the huge black abyss of cloud we were heading for, sure enough a few minutes down the trail it opened up and pounded on us, I stopped and told Ash it was no point sitting around under a tree waiting for it to stop and with a big grin on his face agreed to continue.
we pushed on and got ourselves to the hill that looks over pattaya and out to the gulf of Thailand, the view was OK underneath the blanket of dark clouds and the sun was peeping out through the gaps. We took a picture and kept on, making our way for the singletrack woods, Arriving at the woods we were already dry apart from my boot which still felt like I`d been standing in the river flyfishing, with my squelchy boot we moved on under the cover of the trees and started the loop of tight twisting turns firt climbing then decending into an opening before climbing back up through the tree`s.
Ash rode in front while I shot video from behind on the GoPro, It looked quite fast as Ash leaned the bike over leg out in MX style and gunned the corners. We stopped for waters and chatted about the terrain and how forgiving the little Kawasakis were in the tree`s.
After sweating buckets and ripping through the woods for a while and Ash twisting his knee a little bit, we decided a steady ride on the road back to bike lane was a good way to get back, so with the cool breeze coming through the front of the helmet we made tracks arriving at bike lane within about 15 minutes. Ash went back to the hotel with a swolen leg but had a great time, I did too it was fun riding with Asharry, I hope to see him again.
